Notes from Fr. John - March 2

Dear Friends,

We have begun our process of parish development. We had a very good first session. The turnout was good at the Columbus Room of the Knights of Columbus Hall. (We are grateful to the Knights for their hospitality and helping to make this gathering possible.)

The goal for us is to grow as a community of disciples. Our commitment to Christ binds us to collaborate with one another in building the Kingdom of God.

Our next step in the process will be to begin a number of "committee" meetings, all at 7 p.m., in the church basement:
  • Christ the Priest (Prayer and Liturgy), Monday, March 17.
  • Christ the Prophet (Evangelization, Catechetics), Tuesday, March 18.
  • Christ the King (Social Ministry, Social Justice), Thursday, March 20.
We will have Soup and Spirit suppers in the school cafeteria this year. We will also use them as a part of our parish development process. We will learn how to do individual meetings as a way of getting to know one another more deeply. We will also have some presentations on how the USCCB proposes bi-lingual/bi-cultural parishes operate.

Also this week we start Lent on Ash Wednesday. Although 'Brylcreem' used to say, "a little dab'll do ya,' our understanding of Lent is more than a little dab of ashes. It is a time of penance, prayer and reflection as we try to deepen our baptismal commitment to Christ.

May we all grow closer to Him in preparation for the renewal of our Baptismal promises at Easter.

Fr. John
