Social Concerns

Last Tuesday, a group of parishioners met to share information concerning some of the social ministries that we are involved in at St. Michael.

Bill Wallace shared about the work of Care and Share. This organization is comprised of and supported by area churches in Plymouth. They help to provide assistance to families in immediate need. Bill talked about an energy assistance program offered by NIPSCO.  Angie Turcios talked a bit about Catholic Relief Services (CRS), which is the U.S. Church's assistance program for places in need outside the U.S. Norma Rodriguez and Mayra Figueroa spoke about the Prophetic Voting project with the Diocese which is intended to encourage voting according to our values of Faith, especially in Latino communities. Kata Baca spoke about the Grace and Peace Alliance; this is a group of churches in Plymouth that are trying to reach out to the families living in temporary housing in some of the motels. This is the same group which provided families with Thanksgiving Diners last year and plan to do so again this year.
